  1. The social scientist and the bulimic in me love this. I preach statistics all the time. I’ve read the books and have written so many papers in undergrad. But it’s like people only focus on one aspect of eating disorders: obesity. They forget that there is the other extreme…being too thin. But you can never be too thin in this society. (Or at least that’s what we teach our kids.) They forget that people die from losing weight just as they die from gaining it.

    • Thank you, Wallis Simpson, for your charming “You can never be too rich or too thin” quote. It’s become the norm/truth in our society, and that’s a problem. I agree: people forget about the fear instilled by the anti-obesity campaigns, and the problems being too thin can bring. And hey, you’ll never be too rich if you’re too thin, since you’ll spend all your money on treatment. It’s a no win situation.
